Volunteers Wanted
Wellington Point Sate School is looking for senior volunteers to work with students in its Kitchen Garden Program. Seniors can volunteer in the garden or the kitchen to join with pupils in growing and eating healthy produce. For the security of pupils, a Blue Card is required to be held by volunteers. RDCOTA or the school can assist with applications for the Blue Card.
See our COTA Mail newsletter accessible on our home page for more details.
Bus Purchase
A questionnaire sent to Redlands seniors' organisations resulted in a satisfactory number of responses supporting the need for a bus for the use of seniors’ organisations. As a result, the Management Committee has determined to proceed to apply for a grant to purchase a 12-seater bus.
The bus will have 12 seats and be capable of adjustment to take 2 wheelchairs and with 10 remaining seats. Details of use of the bus will be determined in consultation with the Redlands Seniors network if our application is successful.
RDCOTA Redlands Fifty Plus acknowledges with thanks the receipt of a grant of $500 from the Redland City Council’s Mayors Small Grants to assist with the cost of preparing our application.
Grocery Donations
A questionnaire has been sent to seniors' organisations seeking support for a project involving the donation of grocery items to centres which assist those temporarily in need. RDCOTA would like to coordinate an effort in which organisations would ask their members to donate one or two grocery items per week or fortnight. These would be collected and distributed to nominated agencies. It would be appreciated if organisations that have not returned their questionnaires do so as soon as possible. This project has not been as well received by organisations as has the Bus Project. Please consider raising it with organisations of which you are a member.
