Fortnightly, on Thursday, at the Capalaba Library, RDCOTA volunteers provide morning tea for seniors who are visiting Capalaba for one reason or another. This provides seniors with respite from shopping, a place to await transport or somewhere to meet other seniors. All seniors are welcome with a gold coin requested to assist with catering.

March 1, 15, 29; April 12, 16;  May 10, 24;  June 7, 21;  July 5, 19;  August 2,16,30September 13, 27;  October 11,25;  November 8,22;  December 6.

‘Refresh ’ is in the Art Space, Capalaba Library. Entry is through the library or from the walkway near Council Service desk (look for the signs). All seniors fifty+ are welcome.

SENIORS WEEK

Each year, RDCOTA volunteers prepare the text for a Seniors Week Program which is printed and distribute by Rural Press. In 2011, the program was distributed a a liftout in the Redland Times. Organisations and businesses which conduct events for Seniors Week are invited to provide details to RDCOTA which are compiled in our office and forwarded to Rural Press for publication.
During Seniors Week,  RDCOTA also considers running events which bring seniors together for reasons of benefit to seniors. These may be educational, activity or entertainment activities which do not duplicate the efforts of other organisations.
In 2010 and 2011, We partnered with U3A and the Donald Simpson Centre to conduct the seniors walk which was proudly sponsored by the Redland City Council. The great Southern Garden of Remembrance assisted by sponsoring breakfast after the Walk. We have been advise that the Redland City council will again sponsor the Redland City Council Seniors Walk on 19 August during Seniors Week in 2012.

TOURNAMENT OF THE MINDS

Every month, a number of residents of care facilities in Redland City gather at a host facility for morning tea and a 20 question trivia quiz. These events are coordinated by RDCOTA volunteers and supported by the Management Committee
. Transport and morning tea are catered for by participating care facilities with organisational assistance provided by Diversional Therapists who usually prepare the trivia questions which can be quite challenging. These are enjoyable mornings which are supplemented by outside events including a mid-year picnic and a Christmas lunch.

Our thanks to the wonderful volunteers, Diversional Therapists , facilities and local businesses who cooperate to make these social events possible.

MEN'S GROUP

Every Friday morning, a group of us meet to chat, laugh and generally talk about whatever comes up. Senior men are invited to join us and to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit. There are no obligations, no pressure to recite or sing and no pressure to attend every Friday - just the opportunity to come along as you please for company, refeshment and a chat.
